Care Instructions

All my pieces can be hand washed unless otherwise indicated.

  • Hand wash in cool water—never hot! I use the original blue Dawn detergent to wash all my pieces but any gentle detergent/shampoo (Baby shampoo) will work.
  • Rinse the piece thoroughly and gently squeeze (don’t twist) to remove excess water.
  • Lay the piece flat on a towel and roll up to remove excess water. If ironing is required, set a dry iron on the “silk” setting.

A word about the fibers I use…

I use tencel and bamboo fibers to weave many of my creations. So how exactly are these fibers created and why do I seem to gravitate to them.

Tencel is the trademark name of a fiber called “Lyocell” a “regenerated” cellulosic fiber that is environmentally responsible. The fiber is gentle on the skin with good moisture wicking. The reason I love working with tencel is the ease of weaving and the beautiful drape, especially in scarves plus the colors have a wonderful sheen in the sunlight.

Bamboo is the other fiber of choice. “The bamboo fiber is grown in a pesticide free forest and is eco-friendly due to the sustainable nature of the bamboo plant. The raw material is derived exclusively from the pulp of bamboo trees grown under sustainable agricultural practices.’’

I weave with two different bamboo fibers. One is a 5/2 bamboo which produces a slightly heavier scarf but it makes up for the weight with a garment that is soft and luxurious. The other bamboo fiber is a 16/2 bamboo. The 16/2 is a very fine fiber. (Indicated as “Bamboo light”). It takes a little more time and effort to put on the warping board and to thread onto the loom but the end result is worth it. This fiber produces a light and oh so soft garment. Perfect for warmer weather.
